How the gravel calculator works
Loose planning volume = length (ft) × width (ft) × depth (in) ÷ 12 ÷ 27 × (1 + allowance ÷ 100). Approximate US short tons = adjusted cubic yards × material-specific tons per cubic yard.
Worked example
A 20 × 10 ft area at 4 inches depth needs 66.67 cu ft, or 2.47 cubic yards before extra. With 5% extra, plan about 2.59 cubic yards. At 1.4 short tons/cu yd, approximately 3.63 short tons.
Before you order
Density and compaction depend on aggregate type, moisture, gradation and supplier. Ask the quarry or supplier for the density of the exact product.
All results are planning estimates, not a guarantee of installed material quantity or a quote. Measure the actual project, verify product labels, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
